Thanks for the comment Peter. Interesting post. I agree with your line saying '...For now, a CEO mouthing off stuff in the media when a bunch of middle managers clearly didn’t get the memo on long term seed nurturing over short term bean counting can be… frustrating..'
Innovation needs to involve all levels of the organization and just several. I guess that is one of the challenges of being an innovator isn't it?

As one often more interested in thinking as much about the box as what is in, or outside it, this piqued my interest.

I fear I have few answers. Especially already having tried, somewhat unsuccessfully, to get to grips with what 'innovation' actual is any more:

http://junkk.blogspot.com/2010/03/innovation-wo...

From a purely personal perspective, there seems a major disconnect between the idealistic, empathetic utterances of the guys on the top floor, and those below (often not so far) who see it as their mission to reinterpret much that I would call 'innovation' into short term numbers that can often deter a mind reassured by the counting of beans.

Despite, like you, and as you so often eloquently show, there being pretty clear evidence that much in this arena that might seem a bit 'left field' can also make money too.
